SOMATIC MEDITATION

Somatic Meditation

Somatic Meditation

Starting Sunday January 5th (weekly)

9:00 - 9:30am

$5 - $10 Donation

The term ‘somatic meditation’ refers to a wide range of mindfulness-awareness practices that take the body as the focus of our human journey. By using our experience of the body as the basis for meditation we can discover our true life in a deeply connected way. In this class we will learn to take our body as the path to what is deepest and most real in our lives.

Ailey Jolie:

Ailey experienced her first yoga class hours after trading her Miss Canada crown and life in Europe for a university education in Canada. After her first yoga class, Ailey was filled with a sensation of home that no prior 'home' was comparable too. Years of working in the entertainment industry had created a belief within Ailey that her physical body was the enemy and not an ally. Yoga challenged Ailey to befriend her body. It was almost a decade ago that Ailey completed her first 200 RYT. Since than Ailey has completed two more 200-RYT trainings, advanced teacher training with Ana Forrest (Forrest Yoga) and Seane Corne’s Off The Mat Into The World Program. Additionally, Ailey has completed a 200 Hour Meditation Teacher training and is a student of the Insight Meditation Society where she participates in regular silent meditation retreats sitting in silence for two months of the year. Yoga and meditation have allowed Ailey to come home to her body and become more than friends with the vessel she lives in. Her time as a yoga practitioner and meditation guide inform her work as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (MCP). She is presently in a concurrent Master of Arts and Doctoral program in Depth Psychology with an Emphasis in Somatic Studies.

RESTORATIVE & MEDITATION FOR FALL TRANSITIONS

Restorative & Meditation for Fall Transitions

with Carolyn Anne Budgell

Saturday Sept 7

1:30 - 4:00pm

$30

It’s no secret – life is full of ups and downs. Life can be chaotic physically & mentally and all experiences live in the cells of our bodies. When we don’t create time to acknowledge or heal the imbalances in our nervous systems & emotional layers, we are at risk for the heaviness of various diseases and anxiety.

Welcome in a new season with Carolyn. Join her for an afternoon of meditation and restorative yoga – the sweetest aspects of the yoga practice that are often neglected. These practices emphasize conscious breathing & conscious relaxation, which cause a slowed heart rate, slowed breathing, better digestion and immunity. We will clarify the realness of our inner turmoil, and provide space for boldly greeting the shift towards fall.

Come to create physical ease in the hips and the spine. Come to sink into healing meditations on manifestation & trust. Quite simply, you can expect to slow right down, dive into tension hidden within yourself and set it free. For the long-term, you will sleep better, breathe deeper and feel like you’ve come home to a more integrated version of yourself.

Stop all the ‘doing’, learn how to relax and discover true balance.

Bring a notebook. All levels welcome.

KIRTAN TRAINING

KIRTAN TRAINING

Kirtan Training

Level 1: Basic Skills

with Muni, Krishna Prana, and Nitai

Fridays Aug 9th - Sept 27th

8:00 - 10:00pm

*no class Fri Aug 23, class will be held Sun Aug 25, 1:30 - 3:30pm

Want to learn how to lead kirtan? If so, Kirtan Training Level 1 - Basic Skills is for you. Our instructors Muni, Krishna Prana and Nitai have been immersed in kirtan for many years and have the experience to help you start developing your own kirtan skills. This course focuses on how to chant while playing traditional instruments such as harmonium and kartals, as well as the spiritual practice of chanting. The goal will be for each student to develop the ability and confidence to lead kirtan in a group, or simply for oneself.

Of all the instruments, the most important is the voice. Finding one's voice, or developing it further in kirtan, is a fulfilling experience of self discovery and expression. Basic vocal training will be our starting point, helping each student exercise the voice for the different kirtan melodies to come. Kartals, the small hand cymbals which are important for the rhythm and timing in kirtan, will be our next step. Each student will learn how to properly hold and play the kartals, and will be provided with kartals to practice at home between each weekly class. And of course, we will put special focus on the harmonium, from which come the beautiful melodies and moods of kirtan. Students will learn simple but beautiful melodies on the harmonium and learn how to play with the accompaniment of kartals and the mrdanga drum. Students will also be invited to an online group where further instructions and videos will be available between classes.

Please note that this kirtan training is for basic skills and is meant to introduce the students to Gaudiya Vaisnava style kirtan. This course is not meant for students who are experienced at leading kirtan.
